What We're Drinking - Great Lakes IPA
This month, Nick, Herb, Craig, Eddie, Dave and Chris tasted Great Lakes IPA. Their thoughts are below and, as always, our homework is better than yours. Also, and this is important, we will be having a tasting of this IPA on Thursday, May 9th from 4:30 to 6:30.
Name: Great Lakes IPA
Great Lakes' description: A lightly filtered, citrus-forward IPA that is bright and approachable.
Nick: This is an everyday beer and I mean that as a compliment. It's not a traditional IPA and the finish is smooth and definitely not bitter. Not as hoppy as some may expect, but still tasty.
Herb: Piney and earthy, but without overwhelming hops or malt. Definitely a nice change of pace from traditional IPAs.
Craig: Very good and balanced IPA. Definitely more refreshing than most of this type and just in time for summer.
Eddie: Nice, lightly hopped citrus flavor. People who seek out really hoppy IPAs won't love it, but for me - not a huge fan of IPAs - it was very good. Would be a good introduction to someone who hasn't tried or thinks they won't like IPAs.
Dave: Not overly bitter, but nice and light. This is a beer to unwind with.
Chris: Great Lakes' description nails it: bright and approachable. This is a beer that you want after mowing the grass, when you want a bit more flavor that typical summer offerings, but still want to be refreshed. This is one to keep in the cooler for a warm summer evening.
